Access to the Rail Network
As well as looking after customers on trains, the railway industry has to ensure that passengers can get to and from the railway network easily. With a system in Britain which was largely designed in the Victorian era, and for fewer passengers, this is becoming an important issue. The Disability Discrimination Act has also put a responsibility on the railway industry to improve access for those with mobility impairments and other types of disability. However, this requires considered investment across the network and a good understanding of both station operations and passenger behaviour.
